THE ROYAL DRAWING SCHOOL’S YOUNG ASSOCIATES SHINE IN ANNUAL EXHIBITION

A celebration of creativity and growth

From March 5th to March 11th, 2024, the Breakers Gallery was transformed into a showcase of creativity as The Royal Drawing School’s Young Associates hosted their annual end-of-year art exhibition.

This eagerly anticipated event offered a platform for 28 students from the Outgoing Online Drawing Development Year to unveil their artistic prowess. These talented students are part of The Royal Drawing School Young Associates, a full-scholarship programme situated at the Notting Dale Campus in North Kensington, London. Designed for those aged 15-18 pursuing GCSE Art, A-Level Art, and other creative courses during their education, this course is aimed at improving opportunities for young people in art education.

Under the guidance of professional practising artists, the weekly classes offer a rich array of observational drawing exercises, including drawing from clothed models, still-life set-ups, outdoor sketching, and collaborative projects. Students have the unique privilege of accessing and drawing from a contemporary art collection by world-famous artists situated across the campus.

Throughout the year-long programme, students develop essential skills that allow them to explore their creativity beyond the curriculum while building a portfolio of high-quality work to support their progress in arts education.

Visitors to the exhibition enjoyed a diverse array of artwork, spanning all kinds of mediums and subjects. From intricate pencil sketches to bold acrylic paintings, each piece offered a unique glimpse into the students’ perspectives and passions. Their remarkable achievements highlight the transformative power of art education and mentorship in nurturing emerging artistic voices.
