Ten of Minami Kobayashi’s major canvases are currently on display at our Frestonian Gallery. Completed over the past year, these paintings’ contain Kobayashi’s signature consideration of narrative and memory.
Visitors to the gallery will be treated to a kaleidoscopic exploration of colour, from scorching hues in ‘Five pelicans over the Pacific beach’ to chilling shades in ‘Girlfriends in the snow garden’. The name of the exhibition, ‘The Song of Jujubes’, derives from Kobayashi’s own childhood, creating a sense of deep reminiscence and playfulness.
Born in 1989, and currently living in London, Kobayashi holds an MFA in Painting and Drawing from The School of The Art Institute of Chicago (2018) and a BFA in Painting from Tokyo University of the Arts (2016). Her work features in museums and private collections across the world.
Frestonian Gallery is located on 2 Olaf Street within the Notting Dale Campus.
